Office Depot closing 400 stores

Since November 5, 2013, when Office Depot and OfficeMax completed the merger of equals, they combined both companies to make the second largest office supply chain in the country coming in behind Staples. Today they announced that at least 400 Office Depot stores will be closing. This is about 20% of what the chain currently operates since the merger. All 400 stores, specifically which stores that are closing is not decided yet, will be closed by 2016, with 150 closing by the end of 2014.The company currently operates over 2700 stores total.


Also announced in late April, OfficeMax will be ceasing operations of all 19 Canadian-based OfficeMax Grand & Toy stores.
